Ancient Art
with Kathryn Garcia

From the first civilization comes the intricacies of small machines, hieroglyphics and beginnings of scientific thought. Students ages 7-11 will learn to write and create like an Egyptian, recognize patterns, meanings, and discover life-enhancing methods and practices used in everyday life.
The overall sessions will culminate with the building of a pyramid, your preferred imagery as well as your Egyptian hieroglyphics...all on the fabulous metallic paints. From the square base, to the gold capstone, the four sides will be your personal marks.

Manga & Anime Beginner
with Mariah Leggett

Students ages 10 and up will learn the techniques of professional anime illustration such as shading, perspective, figure drawing, and proportion while using the highest quality markers, pens, and inks. They will also learn about character development, and they will receive instruction in how to plan out their compositions using elements and principles of design. Most importantly, they will get practice through significant repetition with the help of guided instruction.

Watercolor Tuesdays Afternoon
with Shahnaz Lighari

Working with watercolors is a great way to let your artistic side shine! This class will cover the basics of watercolor painting from brush strokes, mixing colors and shades, using wet and dry techniques and making the most out of those inevitable mistakes! Mastering the art of watercolors comes with practice and we develop these skills by creating landscapes, botanicals, and even some free-flowing abstracts. We will also work together through a still life composition developing the eye for light and perspective.

Black & White Portraiture - Thursdays Fall 2022

In this class, students ages 10 and up will learn the techniques of drawing and shading faces with charcoal. They will spend time working on expressions, shading and value. Each class will have a different focus to practice. Students are encourged to bring a photo of their choice.

Dye-orama: Intro to Dyeing - Wednesdays Fall 2022

In this fun, colorful and whimsical class, students ages 7+ will learn various dyeing techniques to create vibrant t-shirts, tote bags, socks and more. We’ll learn how to use rubber bands while Tie Dyeing, different pattern folds used in the ancient Japanese art of Shibori and even ice to create wacky and bold designs that will be a hit everywhere! All of the dyes used will be non-toxic and kid-safe.

The Wonderful World of Weaving
with Eva Rabin

In this introductory weaving class, students will take away basic weaving skills to create a beautiful wallhanging. Students will learn how to warp a lap loom as well as different techniques (including plain weaving, rya knots and soumak) to create a variety of patterns and designs. No previous experience necessary and all skill levels welcome.
Transcending the Photograph
with Jessica Lewis

This workshop is designed to guide students toward creating a painting that doesn’t simply imitate a photograph but goes beyond what the photograph provides. Students will learn how to improve their photography, edit images, and print for better quality to avoid the usual pitfalls in interpreting photos. Students will learn what makes a good photo reference and how to improve upon it. We will study color relationships, creating volume, and space. There will be demonstrations on paint application, edges, brushstrokes, and color mixing. We’ll talk about ways to experiment and explore ways of seeing the picture and painting in ways that better captures the essence of your subject and the connection to your painting. Photo references will be provided for students to pick from.
