Digital Art Fundamentals: Beginner Digital Drawing Class

Students ages 9 and up will dive into the basics of digital drawing, learn about digital tablets, stylus controls and navigating the popular drawing software Procreate to acquire a solid foundation for a seamless transition into the digital art space.

Course Highlights:

Understanding Digital Tools: Explore the diverse array of digital brushes, pens, and tools available in digital drawing software. Learn how to use these tools effectively to create lines, shapes, and textures with precision.

Fundamental Drawing Techniques: Master fundamental drawing techniques such as sketching, line art, and basic shading. Develop a keen eye for proportions, perspectives, and shapes as you lay the groundwork for your digital art journey.

Color Theory Basics: Delve into the principles of color theory, discovering how to choose and blend colors to create visually appealing digital artwork. Explore the impact of color on mood and composition.

Layer Management and Editing: Learn the ins and outs of layer management, an essential skill in digital drawing. Understand how to organize your artwork into layers, make non-destructive edits, and experiment with different elements independently.

Introduction to Digital Composition: Explore the basics of composition, focal points, and visual storytelling. Understand how to arrange elements within your digital canvas to create engaging and aesthetically pleasing artwork.

Community and Support: Join a supportive community of fellow beginners and art enthusiasts. Share your progress, ask questions, and connect with others who are on the same creative journey.

Whether you're a complete novice or have some traditional art experience, our Beginner Digital Drawing Class is your gateway to unleashing your creativity in the digital realm. This class will repeat every 4 weeks with all NEW projects and skill building.

iPads and Apple Pencils are provided by the MACC, but you are welcome to bring your own.

Exploring Creativity: Mixed Media Masterpieces

Exploring Creativity: Mixed Media Masterpieces is a dynamic homeschool art class designed for young artists ages 9 and up! This engaging course is crafted to inspire imagination, foster artistic expression, and introduce students to the exciting world of mixed media art.

Students will get acquainted with the world of mixed media art and understand its versatility by exploring various materials such as paper, fabric, found objects, and more to understand the power of combining different materials.

Explore the basics of acrylic and watercolor painting and experiment with different brush strokes, blending, and texture creation to create vibrant and expressive paintings using various mediums.

Join us on this exciting artistic journey where creativity knows no bounds and will empower young artists to think outside the box and express themselves in a variety of ways. Let the artistic adventure begin!

Students will pursue the following learning objectives during this semester-long course:

  • Explore color, tone, and value (primary, secondary, tertiary and color harmonies).
  • Explore various types of line.
  • Explore shape (organic and inorganic).
  • Explore space and form (positive and negative).
  • Explore proportion and different types of perspectives.
  • Explore different media.
  • Explore different concepts.
  • Explore composition using the art elements.
  • Explore pattern, texture, rhythm.
  • Explore different concepts and themes ( could include, but not limited to abstraction, personal expression, world art, history and culture).

This class will repeat with all NEW projects and skill building.

Creative Synthesis: Exploring Mediums

This mixed media art class offers a dynamic and immersive creative journey designed for aspiring artists aged 9 and up. In this 9 week exploration, students will delve into the captivating realm of mixed media, a fusion of various artistic elements that transcends traditional boundaries.

Each week unfolds a new chapter, inviting participants to experiment with diverse materials such as paper, fabric, paint, and found objects. From the expressive storytelling of collages, the sculptural wonders of three-dimensional art, to the introduction of acrylics and watercolors, students will gain hands-on experience in layering, composition, and the harmonious blending of colors and textures. 

Our mixed media class aims not only to develop technical skills but also to inspire individual expression, fostering a love for the limitless possibilities that arise when different artistic mediums converge in a harmonious and visually captivating manner. Join us for a journey of exploration, innovation, and artistic discovery!

Students will pursue the following learning objectives:

  • Will explore color (contrast, intensity, and value)
  • Will explore perspective, line, rhythm, and movement.
  • Will explore form, space, shape.
  • Will explore emphasis, texture, unity, balance, and pattern.
  • Will explore procedure and appropriate usage of materials.
  • Will explore concepts (could include, but not limited to landscape, museum, design, portraits, creatures, still life, world art, universal themes and personal expression). 

Class will not be held the week of Spring Break, March 18 - 22nd.

Youth Guitar Tuesday

Our comprehensive lessons will guide you through the fundamentals, ensuring you not only understand but also enjoy the process of learning. Delve into the world of music as we explore different genres, from the catchy tunes of pop to the electrifying beats of rock and the soulful twang of country.

Whether you're a beginner or looking to enhance your skills, this course promises an engaging and enjoyable experience as you grasp the essence of chord progression and rhythmic diversity. 

Students need to bring their own guitar.

Digital Illustration: Beginner/Intermediate - Wednesdays

This beginner/intermediate digital illustration class for students ages 9 and up is an exciting and comprehensive course designed to introduce aspiring artists to the world of digital illustration using Procreate and iPads. Throughout this course, students will have the opportunity to create illustrations based off of their favorite characters.

Students will pursue the following learning objectives:

  • Learn the fundamentals of digital art, including the use of digital tools.
  • Explore different digital art mediums such as painting, drawing and illustration.
  • Explore various techniques specifically tailored for digital art such as color theory, composition, shading, and texturing.
  • Improve lineart, line quality, and solid drawing techniques.
  • Learn how to convey a message through art.
  • Understand composition and visual storytelling.
  • Understand how to mock up book and/or magazine spreads, which includes book covers and spines and digital layout. 

No prior experience in digital art is required. This class is suitable for both beginners and intermediate students with some artistic background who are eager to explore digital art techniques.

This class is a stepping stone to our advanced digital classes. All digital students must take this class before taking other digital classes unless they have previous digital experience.

iPads and Apple Pencils are provided by the MACC, but you are welcome to bring your own.

Beyond Boundaries: Mixed Media Expressions

In this class, students will master the basics of drawing and painting. This class is designed for beginner to intermediate learners. Guided lessons will teach students ages 8-13 how to set up a composition and will emphasize and incorporate the use of art elements and principles of design. Special emphasis will be on light, value, and shading techniques. Gain an understanding of different drawing and painting tools and how to properly use them.
