Monthaven Arts & Cultural Center

Taught by local architect and seasoned expert James Edwards, this class is designed to introduce students ages 13 and up to architectural design and the role of the architect in the built environment.

The curriculum includes:

• What is an architect?

• Introduction to architectural drawing tools and their use.

• Review and discussion of the Program for this design exercise.

• Presentation of the site for the Project.

• Overview of the architectural design process.

• Development of presentation drawings for the Project.

Also included will be an introduction to:

• Residential construction systems and components.

• Scale.

• Basic residential architectural styles.

• Design presentations.

• Perspective drawing.

The goal is for each student to develop a design and presentation drawings for the Project.

Drafting and drawing tools will be provided.
