Beginner Acrylic Painting - Wednesday

This is for the artists out there that have been wanting to paint, but have been intimidated by a blank white canvas or feel their skill level is holding them back. In this hands-on six week course, we’ll cover all things acrylic painting from start to finish with various techniques in between. We’ll break everything down into approachable steps with fun & rewarding results. At the end of this course, you’ll have braved those intimidating artistic blocks and feel adequate to start pursuing acrylic paintings independently.

Painting: Abstracting the Landscape - Adult

Are you curious about the endless possibilities of personal expression through abstract landscape painting? Then this course is for you! Looking at old and contemporary master artists, students will begin this workshop by making quick studies of these landscape artists’ works to learn specific techniques to create illusionistic depth, atmosphere, perspective, and mood. We will discuss the varied options for students’ future landscape inspired work: from memory, photos and en plein air.
This workshop will offer exposure to and exploration of methods of creating abstract landscape space and imagery. An important goal is to learn to express a personal interpretation of place. Students will emphasize abstract mark making and gesture to best articulate the type of abstract space they want to create. We will encourage discussion and experimentation while learning the basic skills of creating illusionistic space. Open to painters of all levels!

Advanced Oil Painting - Monday

This six-week course will cover advanced concepts of traditional oil painting techniques such as underpainting, glazing, alla prima (wet on wet painting), and more. Students with a strong understanding of drawing and oil painting would find this course to be helpful in advancing their skills to a professional level. Subjects will be various still-lifes ranging in simple objects to ones with complex shapes and patterns.

This beginners/intermediate Digital Art class is an exciting and engaging opportunity for artists of any age to dive into the captivating world of digital art using the app Procreate. This class is designed to unleash your creativity and nurture their artistic skills using digital tools and techniques. Through a combination of hands-on activities, step-by-step guidance, and inspiring projects, students will learn the foundations of digital art while expressing their unique artistic vision. iPads and Apple Pencils are provided by the MACC, but you are welcome to bring your own.
Students will pursue the following learning objectives:
- Learn the fundamentals of digital art, including the use of digital tools.
- Explore different digital art mediums such as painting, drawing and illustration.
- Explore various techniques specifically tailored for digital art such as color theory, composition, shading, and texturing.
- Learn improved sketching techniques via still life drawings and figure drawing.
- Practice human anatomy, portraiture and perspective of the human form.
- Explore Procreate as a new medium.
No prior experience in digital art is required. This class is suitable for beginners and students with some artistic background who are eager to explore digital art techniques.
